Guyyyys I’m dooooone! No more finals! No more law school! Yayyy!

Honestly I’m not feeling as pumped as I thought I would be. After finals in general, I always go through this weird delirium phase where I’m just sort of confused all the time. It’s like my mind just needs time to process what happened. So while my brain detoxes, I have an awesome guest post for you! I “met” Danique on Cody (where I have my Zumba plan). She is a rockstar yogi who recently released her own plan on Cody focused on building strength for arm balances an inversions, one that I’ve been trying out and love! She’s here today to tell you a bit more about it and why she chose that focus.

Hi Guys, my name is Danique. You might follow me on the Cody App (Danique Rambo Brittain) or on Instagram (@daniquerambo). Kim has given me the amazing opportunity to do a guest spot on her wonderful blog, and I wanted to take the chance to talk a bit about my Yoga Strength Foundations Training Plan, which is available to download on the Cody App or via their website.

When the Cody App approached me and asked if I would be interested in doing a training plan, my immediate thought was to do one that was focused on arm balances and inversions, because I know from speaking to people wanting to get into yoga that everyone wants to skip right past the basics and nail these harder poses.

In this wonderful world of social media, you can surf through Instagram and see hundreds of amazing photos of gravity defying super yogi’s doing the most insanely cool poses. The positive of this is that it encourages us to challenge ourselves, but the negative of this is that we can easily forget that there is so much MORE to yoga than snapping a cool photo to post up on Instagram and get lots of likes.

I decided I wanted to use my opportunity to do a training plan to remind people that all the “awesome” yoga poses have a foundation of strength behind them, which is built over time. So, instead of doing a tutorial on how to get into a Pincha Mayurasana (forearm stand scorpion), I instead created a series of 4 short strength focused Vinyasa’s & complimentary body weight exercises to help build up the underlying strength needed to go on to achieve the impressive arm balances and inversions we see on social media websites, and for some added fun, I have also included a little TRX yoga flow, and some exercises to help build handstand strength!

People often ask me for tips on how to improve a certain pose, or how they can achieve a particular posture, and my answer is always the same – persistence, repetition, and dedication to your practice. Yoga is like anything else in life; you get out of it, what you are willing to put into it.

One of the (many) things I love about yoga is that no matter how ‘good’ you get at the physical asanas, there is always room to grow & improve.  Whether it be simply improving the physical postures, gaining stronger mental awareness & being truly present throughout your practice, achieving a greater ability to simply observe your own thoughts during meditation, finding ways to more closely align your day to day life with The Yoga Sutras or allowing your breathe to let you honour your body during a yoga flow – none of us yogi’s can ever put our hand up and say “I have completely mastered every single aspect of yoga” – that’s probably why they call it a ‘practice.’ ;)

Namaste, Busy Bod readers! I hope to share my practice with you soon! If you’re interested in checking it out, you can do so here: https://www.codyapp.com/plans/yoga-strength-foundations.

Thanks Danique! Isn’t she amazing? As I mentioned, I have Danique’s Cody plan, so definitely let me know if you have questions about it. I’m definitely feeling much stronger in my arm balances, and I love listening to her adorable Australian accent. :)

Questions: Newer yogis, do you tend to want to jump in to the advanced poses? Thoughts on the impact of social media on yoga?
